Great
Room Remodel of 2007
In 2007, we
decided to
remodel our Great Room.
I seem to have
misplaced the pictures I took when
I first started this adventure. I'm hoping they are on my
husband's computer and plan to remind him to look for them for me.
In the meantime, here is what we have done so far...
To the front window:

This
is what the front window looked like a couple years ago. To
get an idea of what it looked like right before we started, imagine
this with two 10 gallon fishtanks on the bottom row of dragons and lots
of stuff underneath.
|

Here
you can see the carpet being torn out to be replaced with new.
|

Here
the cabinets are being built. These cabinets will replace the
wire shelving in the first picture (and hopefully keep things a little
neater). You can also get a feel for the new carpet that has
gone in.
|

Here
the cabinets are mostly done. We're still waiting for the
toekicks and the countertop to be put on. The dragons are now
hanging out on the top shelf, but will be organized a bit better when
we are done. The fishtanks will also be on these cabinets.
(Yes, that's my husband.)
|

Here
is the front window mostly done.
All of the plants are neatly arranged and the fish tanks are
in
place. I am planning on putting the dragons on pedestals so
you
can see the ones in the back a bit better. (Leia cat is in
the
foreground.) |

Okay,
I had
to do it.
When I picked up the white betta, I just had
to put these three boys in the tank this way. (Don't know if
you
can see them, but they are red crowntail, white veiltail, blue
crowntail.) |
This is the long wall that goes into the living area. There used to be
two 4' tall shelves between the post and the door into the living room
(the big blank area next to the futon). These shelves had
office supplies on them. (Oh, and the futon is on the
*opposite* wall from where it was in the very first picture on this
page...above.)

Here
the new carpet is in, but the old curtains are still up. (See
the window/shelf next to the futon? That'll get a dragon, so will the
post between the two sections of the room.)
|

Here
are the parts to the desk that will go up in this space. I'm
still debating about whether to get a hutch to on top of the desk (also
waiting for them to get back in stock).
|

Here
is the desk in place. I still need to put the drawers
on...and
I decided to get the 2 drawer filing cabinet to go with it...it will
fit between the desk and the futon.
|

You
can mostly see the finished desk here...along with the filing cabinet
and chair. There will be a picture or two on the wall when it
is done.
|
This is the "reading nook".

I
finished and put together the coffee table myself. The
loveseat now has a cover over it. The thing in front of the
door is a structure for the cats to sun themselves and a scratching
post and so forth. (There will also be a nice picture on the wall
there.)
|

The
cat structure also makes a nice play area for Scott...for another month
or so, until he gets too heavy for it. :-)
|
This is the wall between the reading nook and the living area.

Here
are the cabinets all in, even with the toe-kick and the countertops!
|

Couple
more bookcases are in.
|

All
of the bookcases are in...you can kind of see the reading nook to one
side and the desk to the other.
|

Scott
is "helping" us put bookcases together. One of his favorite
words is "screwdriver", though it is rather hard to understand.
